Reflexology

How May Reflexology Help Me?

Reflexology may be used to help restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium. This gentle therapy encourages the body to work naturally to restore its own healthy balance.

Many people use reflexology as a way of relaxing the mind and body and counteracting stress. Some doctors, consultants and other health care professionals recognise reflexology as a well-established, respected and effective therapy .

With ever increasing levels of stress, it is important people take more responsibility for their own health care needs.

Reflexology may help with coping on a physical, mental and emotional level thereby encouraging healing and maintenance of health in all areas of life.

Reflexology should not be used as an alternative to seeking medical advice.

Who Can Benefit From Reflexology?

Reflexology is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.

If you have a specific medical condition you may discuss this with me, confidentially, before you decide to book a treatment.

After having completed a course of reflexology treatments for a specific condition, many people find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well-being.

What Happens When I go for Treatment?

On the first visit I will have a preliminary talk with you to determine your present and past health and lifestyle.

I will then use my hands to apply pressure to the feet. The application and the effect of the therapy are unique to each person.

A professionally trained reflexologist can detect subtle changes in specific points on the feet, and by working in these points may affect the corresponding organ or system of the body.

A treatment session usually lasts for about one hour. A course of treatment may be recommended depending on your body's needs.

How Will I Feel After Reflexology Treatment?

After one or two treatments your body may respond in a very definite way. Most people note a sense of well-being and relaxation; sometimes people report feeling lethargic, nauseous or tearful, but this is transitory and is a part of the healing process.

This is vital information to feedback to me as it shows how your body is responding to treatment. This will help me to tailor a treatment plan specific to your needs.

Reiki

How May Reiki Help Me?

Reiki works to promote health and wellbeing on all levels; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Reiki can help to clear blockages in the energy field of the body and balance the chakras. It is used more and more in Cancer and chronic illness centres run by the NHS due to the non-invasive way in which it is delivered; the client remains fully dressed (usually the footwear is removed) and they can lie down or be seated depending on their energy levels or physical ability.

Reiki should always be used to complement and enhance medical treatment, not as a replacement for it.

Who Can Benefit From Reiki?

Anyone or anything! Some practitioners give Reiki to their pets, their plants, or even an upcoming event that they want to go well. Reiki can be used without fear of harm as the energy goes where it is most needed, for the greatest good.

Because there is no manipulation of tissues and many practitioners (me included) do not touch the client during most of the treatment, it can benefit those who do not like, or cannot tolerate, physical touch.

What Happens When I Go For Reiki?

I will set up a massage couch in your chosen position then have a chat with you about why you chose to have a Reiki treatment. What, if anything, you are hoping will be improved by having Reiki, and then I will give a brief explanation of what to expect.

If it is comfortable for you to do so, you will then lie fully clothed on the couch face up with a blanket and/or pillows for comfort. I will encourage you to close your eyes and then treatment will begin. I hover my hands approximately two inches above various points on your head, torso and limbs and then I will ask you to turn onto your stomach to complete the treatment. You may feel sensations of heat, cold, tingling or pressure. I will encourage you to let me know if you wish the treatment to stop at any time. After around one hour the treatment will be complete and I will allow you to wake in your own time and then we can discuss any sensations you felt and what this may mean. You may feel very tired or full of energy following the treatment. It is very important for you to do as your body is telling you at this point. If you feel tired you must rest if you can, and aim to drink plenty of water for the 24 hours afterwards.
